All choked up

August 23rd, 2006 at 4:01 pm by james

It’s been an eventful week or so since last I blogged. On Friday Jo tried to inhale a 50p coin while travelling in the car with Michelle. The experience left her with a scratchy throat and Michelle with palpitations. It reminded me of a day at playgroup when Aunty Jenny was taking us in her brown Variant to feed the deer at Rhodes Memorial and one of us got a lifesaver stuck in his throat. It might have been me, I’m not sure. I have an enduring memory of the person leaning over the front left seat from the rear seat such that his belly was on the top of the backrest while Jenny drove with her right hand while beating his back with her left. Move over Dr Heimlich.

Sophie crawled for the first time last week – just two days after we took the shuffle clip published previously, so that was in the nick of time. She has since figured out climbing onto one of the toyboxes and diving off. Much hilarity, clips to follow.

On Monday I bought my last monthly railcard for quite some time. That feels good.

james manages to make it sound v uneventful!
this is what i posted on the parents forum i frequent

was driving back from the nursery this afternoon after a lot of fun on the play systems, when i heard a strange noise form the back. looked back to see jo with her hand up to the wrist in her mouth. so i said are you chocking and she just nodded, so i pulled onto the pavement jumped out and ran around the car, grabbed her out – at which point she has hitting her chest trying to breathe. so i turned her up and banged and banged and nothing happened so i began wondering if i should do the hiemlich and she started retchiing – i was frantically trying to think what she could be chocking on as she hadnt been eating anything. then she got sick and brought up a 50p coin which she had obviosly swallowed (now she is a very tiny 3 year old -how it got into her throat i have no idea) and i burst into tears.

i am still feeling all shakey and want to cry thinking about it. she has bounced back and you wouldnt know that anything had happened.

sophie is really enjoying the new things she can do. she loves climbing onto the blue box as james said and has also managed the first step – 2 or 3 days ago. thinks she is v clever:)

all down with a nasty bug today. sophie woke looking like she had a hangover, nose running jo is v hot and i have a horrid headache and feel nauseous:( hoping it will all clear by the time the schonkens come for a visit at the weekend.

haha, Michelle you heavy drinker you. Wow, sounds very scary. I don’t think I would have been that collected. I am glad everyone is OK and that Sophie is crawling and taking steps!

Michelle, you poor girl. What a fright. A 50p is quite a big coin, my goodness. Great news about Soph’s mobility! The two of them are going to get up to great nonsense now!! Ant is managing to get all the way up the stairs when we’re not noticing (like in about 10 seconds), and all I can do is hope no-one distracts him while he’s doing it. We only had a few tumbles with the boys, but now Ant has many boy-sized distractions (like Matt pulling on him saying “no, don’t climb up the stairs”)
Can’t wait to see you… please come and stay for a while! Let me know when you’re coming to EL & I’ll let you know if Mom’s flat’s free (10 to 1 it will be!)

I meant Dr Heimlich of course; difficult to spell on my phone.
